80 techno trance house jungle DJ RAVE FLYERS 1993-2000

Sam: Now remember, people, don't try looking us up in the phone book. And if Mr. Kincaid answers the phone, don't say anything about our eBay auctions. You got it? I can't believe they've still got this card taped up to the wall here. I mean, if someone's determined to track us down, they're gonna call here. What, do they think Mr. Kincaid won't notice when all his movies are gone? And his soundtracks? They're selling his personal collection of rare soundtracks that he keeps locked in the back room, too!

Jonah: So Sam, I see you're at it again.

Sam: I told you people wanted my flyers!

Jonah: Just because you got bids before me doesn't mean a thing. My auctions aren't over yet. I just can't understand why people are so into flyers.

Sam: Look, Jonah, there's raves all over the world. Hundreds, probably thousands of parties and club nights every weekend of the year. You know that, right? Here’s a party thrown last year in a massive underground cave, somewhere in Tennessee!

Jonah: Kids raving in caves. Sounds pretty advanced.

Sam: Look at this one, it's a five-year anniversary flyer from a crazy production crew called Phunkodelic that puts out flyers with cool shapes, like this juice bottle, or this turntable, or this laser gun! All there's 25 of them pictured on this one flyer! Five years worth of awesome parties! They’re the ones who do the Flavor parties in the Carolinas, some of the biggest events in the Southeast, check it out, here’s the psychedelic flyer from the very first Flavor with a grape scratch-n-sniff sticker.

Jonah: And?

Sam: Well, after one's over, unless somebody videotaped it for a Dateline NBC expose, all that's left of the party is the flyer that got made to promote it. And most of those get thrown away immediately by kids who find 'em on their car windshields, or they get trashed later for any old reason. So they're rare! Like this giant poster-sized one, Cirrus Of The Moon, it unfolds to 18" X 23" and there's an awesome graphic, this is the biggest flyer I've ever seen! And check out Boo No. 5, wow, it’s huge too, four connected pages, unfolds to 11" X 34", with a lineup like I’ve never seen before! KRS-1, Derrick May, Juan Atkins, Paul Johnson, Sandra Collins, Bad Boy Bill, & DJ Craze. And that’s just on the first page!

Jonah: But can't you get 'em everywhere?

Sam: No, just at parties and cool stores, and then only ones from whatever region you're in. Like, we never get flyers from Cali and Phoenix or Vegas here, and if we were on the West Coast, we'd never get flyers from NYC and Atlanta! But some people collect 'em. There's even a book out now about rave flyers, it's called Searching For the Perfect Beat. Look at this one, Phuture Phat Hong Kong Phooey, it was one of the Freebass Society’s last ever parties at the infamous State Palace Theater in New Orleans before a massive drug bust shut that place down for good.

Jonah: I still don't get it.

Sam: Well all I can say is, there's a lot more smart ravers out there than there are people who like your silly cult movies.

Jonah: So maybe you can help out by picking out some of your favorite 80's flicks.

Sam: No! Because maybe, like, I have ethics about selling these videos. We only work here, Jonah. Ohmigod, this Boo party is tripping me out, they also had Feelgood, Scott Henry, Dave Hollands, Spacegirl, Bad Company, J-Majik, Red One, Ink w/ MC AD, Odi & Kazpa, DB, Dever, and Bam Bam! That’s twenty headliners!

Jonah: If Mr. Kincaid knew what we needed the money for, he'd understand. You know he was a member of that black radical group the FVB back in the day.

Sam: What, the Future Villain Band? And did he give Billy Shears a beatdown while Strawberry Fields fell off the giant dollar sign to her doom? You dummy, he was in the United Fruit of Blackness, the UFB.

Jonah: Whatever. All I know is, I've heard him say he was down for the struggle numerous times. And will you please call Mark and see when the fuck he's getting here? I've got a date with a certain Rollergirl and I'm not hanging around here any longer than I have to. I'm going back up front.

Sam: Okay, sure. Listen up, peeps, you did it! You bid on my lot first, yay! Mad props. So check it out, I dug up another, totally different lot of flyers for ya! There's 80 total in this one, and they stretch back as far as 1993! That's a long time ago! As a bonus, one of the flyers is actually an entire issue of a cool, hard to find 45-page rave zine called Huge, published by kids in New Jersey, issue #4! To keep things straight, let's call the first batch of flyers (the one with 100) Lot "A," and this one's Lot "B" (the one with 80 flyers). I know you'll enjoy these flyers as much as I have. 80 flyers, all different, all of them super-cool and crazy collectible. So start bidding! Peace!

You are bidding on a lot of 80 East Coast rave and club flyers, Lot "B," primarily from the Southeast, all in near-mint unused condition, all of them in color on glossy stock paper, except for one issue of Huge magazine (#4) on newsprint w/ 2-color cover, 4" X 6", 45 pp; and 5 flyers on non-glossy stock (Deep - October 25 1999, quarter page, Raleigh NC, Aces High & GFS, feat. Thats cool man. That Mirage flyer was my first big show with Max. The graphic design was hot for the times IMO. We overspent our budget but we still made money. It was the experience that hooked me in entertainment especially the sweet scene ATL had in the late 90's ending with a bang at my last large event FutureFest 2000 or FF2K.

I just randomly stumbled upon this whilst reminiscing about the good old days.

I went to a few of those parties including the Hong Kong Phooey one..I remember we had to wait outside for a few hours before they finally started letting people in.

Good memories. =)
